Tissue biomarkers have been increasingly used in clinical practice to aid in disease diagnosis, in assessing patient prognosis, and in treatment planning by predicting individual patient response to therapy. These tissue biomarkers can target cells, tissue morphology, and also protein expression. Together with the immunohistochemistry (IHC) technique, our company also provides tissue microarrays, histological and digital pathological approaches, and imaging analysis to study tissue biomarkers.
Tissue microarrays (TMAs) consist of paraffin blocks in hundreds of small circular tissue samples or cores, extracted with a needle from larger tissue blocks, are arranged into arrays following a prespecified layout design using a TMA arrayer. Such a TMA block can be then cut down into slices that can be stained using IHC. Our custom tissue microarray service allows high-throughput biomarker analysis of large cohort of tissue samples. It can be used for diagnostic profiling, evaluation of predictive or prognostic biomarkers, detection of disease biology, and target identification for novel approaches.
Tissue biomarkers can be detected in histological and digital pathological samples with the implementation of whole slide scanning, powerful software and computer processing capacity. Digital pathology mainly focuses on data management based on information generated from digitized specimen slides. Through the use of computer-based technology, digital pathology utilizes virtual microscopy or whole-slide imaging (WSI). Glass slides are converted into digital slides that can be views, managed, shared and analyzed on a computer monitor. Besides digital pathology, new biomarkers can also be developed by other imaging techniques, such as X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), optical coherence tomography (OCT), near infrared spectroscopy, and positron emission tomography (PET).
With advances in high-resolution whole slide scanning, web-enhanced multisite collaboration, image analytics, machine learning, and imaging informatics, our services enable researchers to accelerate quantitative biomarker discovery and transform the discovery and clinical translation of companion diagnostics for precision therapeutics.
