SELDI is a variant of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI). SELDI-TOF utilizes chips to capture target biomolecules from complex biological samples. A laser is fired at its co-crystallized mixture with the matrix material, which dissociates to produce charged ions that are then separated and detected by a time-of-flight mass spectrometer.
