Matrix metalloproteinase-14 (MMP14) is an endopeptidase expressed in aggressive cancer cells, which affects tumor invasion and angiogenesis and has the potential to become an effective biomarker. Creative BioMart Biomarker provides customers with accurate, sensitive and specific cancer biomarker testing services, including MMP14 detection services. High-quality services, short turnaround time and reasonable prices can effectively help customers shorten the research cycle and reduce research costs.
MMP14 is a member of the MMP family and also belongs to membrane-type metalloproteinase (MT-MMP). In addition to having the same basic structure as MMPs, MMP14 also has three unique regions, including the C-terminal hydrophobic transmembrane region that anchors MMP14 to the tumor cell membrane. The proteins in the MMP family are a class of highly conserved enzymes that participate in the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in normal physiological processes and disease processes. ECM is related to tumor growth and angiogenesis, and its main components are collagen, laminin, actin, proteoglycan, etc. MMPs can degrade almost all components in ECM, and are essential enzymes in the process of ECM degradation. While ECM is degraded, MMPs help to provide space for the growth of new blood vessels, activate proteins with potential activity in inflammation and tumor cell migration, and participate in the regulation of cell adhesion. MMP14 plays a key role in angiogenesis. It can promote the regulation of angiogenesis by cleaving ECM, and also participate in the proteolysis of anti-angiogenic factors, the degradation of TGF-β and endoglin, the production of pro-angiogenic factors and the regulation of MMP2. MMP14 is overexpressed in breast cancer and increases the expression level of VEGF by activating Akt and mTOR signaling pathways, thereby promoting tumor growth and angiogenesis. In addition, MMP14 also plays a key role in angiogenesis in glioblastoma, melanoma, and colorectal cancer. At the same time, MMP14 is also a potential target in cancer treatment.
