Galectin-3 Detection Service

Galectin-3 is a galectin that acts in many biological activities and can be used as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker for heart disease. Increased serum galectin-3 levels were detected in all types of cardiovascular disease. Creative BioMart Biomarker is capable to provide our customers with superior galectin-3 detection service, various detection methods ensuring high sensitivity for detecting biomarkers in different samples with different concentrations.

Introduction

Galectin-3 is a member of the galectin family and is a β-galactoside-binding lectin with an evolutionarily conserved carbohydrate recognition domain. It binds proteins in a carbohydrate-dependent and -independent manner. Galectin-3 is mainly located in the cytoplasm, but it shuttles into the nucleus and is secreted into the cell surface and biological fluids, including serum and urine. It plays a role in many biological activities, including cell growth, apoptosis, pre-mRNA splicing, differentiation, transformation, angiogenesis, inflammation, fibrosis and host defense. Many previous studies have shown that galectin-3 can be used as a biomarker for the diagnostic or prognostic of heart disease.

Elevated serum galectin-3 levels were detected in all types of cardiovascular disease. Galectin-3 is a biomarker of fibrosis and inflammation associated with the development and progression of heart failure (HF). Galectin-3 expression levels are independent predictors of mortality in chronic HF patients. In HF patients with coronary heart disease, serum galectin-3 levels are elevated. In addition, galectin-3 is also associated with the severity of HF. In patients with aortic valve stenosis, the expression levels of galectin-3 in serum and myocardium were positively correlated with fibrosis levels and relative wall thickness. In patients with chronic coronary heart disease (CHD), elevated serum galectin-3 levels are associated with an increased incidence of cardiovascular events. In patients with coronary artery disease, serum galectin-3 levels are positively correlated with severity of coronary artery disease, and elevated galectin-3 levels reflect an increase in myocardial fibrosis. In addition, elevated levels of galectin-3 expression were also detected in patients with myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular diseases.
