Assay Background
AR-V7 is a splice variant of androgen receptor mRNA, and is often used as a biomarker in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) related research to explore its potential as a predictive biomarker. Next-generation androgen receptor axis-targeted therapies (AATTs) is a treatment strategy for mCRPC. The AR-V7 encoding protein lacks the ligand binding domain, and is a biomarker for resistance to AATT, which can achieve constitutive activation of AR target genes in the absence of androgens. AR-V7 protein can form heterodimers with full-length AR, activate PSA, and stimulate cell growth under special circumstances. AR-V7 has higher mRNA expression levels in prostate tumors and can be detected in circulating tumor cells and peripheral blood of patients with metastatic prostate cancer. The expression of AR-V7 in prostate cancer cells is a predictive factor related to mCRPC, which may have guiding significance in the treatment of mCRPC patients.
