VEGFR2, VEGFR1, and VEGFR3 are class III receptor tyrosine kinases. VEGFR2's precursor protein has 1356 amino acids, including a 19-amino acid signal peptide. Mature VEGFR2 features a 745-amino acid extracellular domain, a 25-amino acid transmembrane domain, and a 567-amino acid cytoplasmic domain. VEGFR2 binds VEGF but not PlGF with high affinity, unlike VEGFR1. The soluble VEGFR2/Fc chimera binds VEGF tightly and serves as a VEGF antagonist. |
