VEGFR2, VEGFR1, and VEGFR3 are class III receptor tyrosine kinases. Each has seven immunoglobulin-like repeats in its extracellular domain and a kinase insert domain intracellularly. Their expression is largely confined to endothelial cells, where they are crucial for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. VEGFR3 is broadly expressed in early embryos but later localizes to lymphatic endothelia, suggesting a key role in lymphangiogenesis. |
